A Declaration Of War

To Our Enemies,

What our name signifies is not important. We have lived in the shadows for as long as you have been ruling the world. You have hung us up on the Appian Way, you have burnt us on the stake. You have torn us away from our children, you have murdered us one by one. But we have not vanished. Our thorns will always be in your flesh.

Media strategies

Someone posted on Indymedia yesterday suggesting that activists consider the mainstream media as targets during the DNC and RNC. This is a good idea. According to reports, a group of protesters ran up on Chris Matthews and MSNBC and got their platforms heard before a national audience. That same tactic could work with every news outlet around.

A strategic lesson from the DNC and related police assaults

The police assaults on protesters and organizers in Denver and elsewhere suggests a strategic lesson: If you are planning direct action, do ONLY that action and lay low at other times so you cannot be pre-empted

Working Democracy for Minnesota

Working democracy is the economic self-government of the workers. By definition it involves the workers in the management decision-making process as part of the daily activity of the workplace.

Working democracy cannot, therefore, be imposed on society by any political party or minority faction of the workers. It cannot be given to the workers by any benevolent dictator, or granted to them by any philanthropic elite. It can only come into existence by the creative, coordinated action of the workers themselves.

Who are the “workers”?

2 connected incidents of RNC related police harassment

in

This past weekend, an individual's St. Paul apartment had a warranted search performed.
This individual was told investigators knew that he was an acquaintance of another individual suspected of being involved with the RNC protest. Nothing was taken besides a map of St. Paul, and he was not arrested.
This afternoon, the suspected individual's parents' house was met by 3 officers, and asked the father where the individual was, lived, and worked. There was no warrant, and the father responded that he did not know and asked them to leave.

Fuck Fox Blox

The RNC is nothing but a media spectacle. No decisions are made there, the delegates aren't creating a platform, they aren't getting the evil work of Empire done in a nuts and bolts way. They are simply setting up a stage and creating a media event so that they can reach a huge number of people simultaneously via satellite, cable, and broadcast TV, and to a lesser extent via the right wing blogs, radio stations, and print press. It's a moment for cementing support and building up Republican identity through televised spectacular politics.
